Bright, salmon-pink blooms with smooth, rounded petals are borne on wiry, pubescent stems from late spring thru early summer. The petals have a crepe-like appearance and a satiny texture. Each flower can measure 4-5" across. In the center of a poppy's flower rests a very large, velvety-black seed capsule surrounded by prominent, dark purple stamens. Altogether, these flowers absolutely steal the show when they are in bloom. After the bloom cycle is completed however, these perennials will go dormant, so plan on planting other plants nearby to fill in the gaps. Grows 30'' tall by 24'' wide in full sun

Common Name: Black-Eyed Susan, Coneflower Black Eyed Susans are one of the most popular perennials available today, having earned the prestigious Perennial Plant of the Year Award in 1999. Common Name: Pincushion Flower This selection produces a profusion of lavender-blue, pincushion-like flowers over a very long period beginning in late spring. They sit atop wiry stems which hover over the short mound of ferny basal foliage. They make excellent cut flowers and also attract butterflies.

This hardy, upright selection sports light green leaves and deep rose flowers which age to a beautiful bronze. Tall, upright sedums form substantial clumps of foliage which can be substituted for shrubs in the landscape. Their stout, sturdy stems support the massive flower heads which develop in summer and burst into bloom in fall. If left standing, they provide winter interest and food for birds.

Common Name: Stokes' Aster 'Honeysong Purple' sports true royal purple flowers with a hint of red towards the center that darkens as it ages. The contrasting white stamens and purple-tinged stems add to its appeal. The individual flowers measure 4 inches across and have petals with deeply serrated edges. They are wonderful in fresh bouquets. The deep green foliage is neatly mounding. Stokesia is a native North American wildflower. It has been grown for many years for its beautiful flowers and ease of culture. Because of its heat tolerance, it is widely grown in the south. Blooming from midsummer to early fall (if deadheaded), it is a tremendous accent to yellow, pink, or white mums and other late bloomers.

If you want stop-in-your-tracks beauty, look no further than ‘Perfectly Picasso’. Paintbrush-like spikes produce white buds that open to medium pink flowers. The contrast between the buds and the flowers give this plant a unique bicolor look. Attractive flowers cover the top ½ of the plant, showing off its healthy medium green leaves on a beautifully rounded habit. This medium-height Veronica would be perfect for the middle of the border. 'Purple Illusion' matches the habit and flower size of 'Wizard of Ahhs', but with thick, purple flowers. Dark green leaves form a thick foliar canopy, so the plant has substance even after it has finished blooming. 'Purple Illusion' requires vernalization to bloom. Common Name: Old-Fashioned Bleeding Heart, Common Bleeding Heart A classic charmer! One of the oldest but still irreplaceable perennials in cultivation. Old-fashioned Bleeding Hearts form large, bushy clumps of powdery-green foliage comprised of cut or lobed leaves on fleshy stems. In late spring, chains of puffy heart-shaped flowers with rose-pink petals and white tips dangle beneath the arching, leafless stems. Common Name: Purple Coneflower The classic purple coneflower. Beautiful rose pink ray petals with a coppery brown, spiky central cone. Petals are held horizontally, making the flowers appear even bigger. Newer blooms are more intense in color and lighten to pale rose as they age, lending a bicolor effect to the entire clump of Echinacea. Praised for their large, daisy-like flowers which appear from midsummer thru fall, after many other perennials have finished blooming, Coneflowers are a mainstay in today's garden. If deadheaded, the bloom cycle will be extended. However, some spent blooms should be left on the plants in fall because their seeds provide winter food for finches and other birds. The dried seed heads also provide architectural interest in the winter.
