Sod webworms commonly attack Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, fine fescue, and bentgrass maintained at a variety of mowing heights. Webworm damage starts as small yellow or brown patches in the leaf blades in lawn areas. As the caterpillars feed and grow, the patches gradually increase in size. Caterpillars are nocturnal, so you won't notice them on the surface during the day. However, if you gently pull the grass apart, you'll notice tunnels or burrows in the thatch. Often these burrows will be lined with green, pellet-like matter. This is caterpillar excrement, also known as "frass". By midsummer, large sections of a lawn might be destroyed by the sod webworm caterpillars, which prefer sunny areas. Webworm damage is particularly severe in dry conditions, partly because the grass is less able to recover from caterpillar feeding. Damage is usually most apparent in July and August, when temperatures are highest and cool season grasses are not as robust. Affected areas recover slowly from webworm feeding and often are overrun by weeds. An application of our Guardian for Sod Webworm in late April to early May as soon as soil temperatures reach 100C (500F) and again in early July can correct this pest. NIC nematodes are isolated Canadian Strains that are reared on a live host. They are fresher, more keyed to Canadian pests and 100% organic.

Apply Safer’s Trounce Hose-End Lawn & Turf Insecticide using the hose-end applicator provided. Applicator will accurately dilute this concentrated insecticide for treatment of lawns and turf. NOTE: Hard water (pH is above 7 and high in mineral content) can cause sprayer to clog. Use softened water whenever possible. To kill chinch bug, ants and earwigs in lawns and turf: Spray insects to wet when they first appear. Thorough coverage is essential for effective control. Complete contents of container (1 L) will provide approximately 140 - 420 square metres of coverage, depending on the severity of the pest problem. In areas with high pest populations, apply contents of container (1 L) evenly over 140 square metres. In areas with lower pest populations, coverage may be extended up to 420 square metres.
